Age 85, transitioned August 29, 2017.
Ruby Jean Sublett Brown was born November 18, 1931 to Irene Murray Hopwood and Campbell Sublett, both of whom are preceding her in death. She was a native of Rutherford County. She attended Bradley Elementary School and Graduate from Holloway High School. At Holloway she was active as a cheerleader and other clubs. For several years Ruby Jean was elected to be a member of the queen’s court. In her Senior year she was elected as the homecoming queen.
Ruby Jean attended Tennessee Agriculture Institute, where she earned her certification in Early Childhood Education. She used her degree to begin her career as Teacher at 18th Avenue Community Center where she retired. Ruby found great delight in walking the children to and from school each day. One of best pass times was dancing.
She was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church until she moved her membership to St. John A.M.E. Church to support the spiritual growth and transformation of her children. Ms. Ruby was known for those sharp looks she would give with her eyes, a beautiful smile, and sweet spirit. She was proud, classy, frim, and loved her mother and her children.
Ruby married Sgt. Arthur Calvin Brown 1st, and from this union she is survived by her children: Gail (Roger) Ligon, Arthur Calvin Brown II, Pastor Sonja V. Brown (Reverend John W. Deloatch Jr) John Patrick Brown, and Vincent De-Paul (Brenda) Brown, Lina Denise Brown, and Angela Z. Brown; grandchildren: India Walker, Calvin Brown III and Andre Malique Brown, Jahara S. Q. Davis Haymon and Mason S. E. Davis, Angel Brown and Julian Brown, Laquisha Hambrick Brown and Elycia Chanel; great-grandchildren: Calvin Chance Brown, Ivana Priya Walker, Carter Sonja J. Haymon (NC) and Davis Elijah L. Haymon, Niqua Brown, Destiny Phonazee, Stephan Brown, Christian and Christopher Brown and Sol’e. First Cousins: Mattie Dunston, Florence Bee Taylor, Barbara Alexander, Dorothy Burrell (Michigan). additional cousins, Dr. Raynese Scott (Navy) and Raymone Scott (Ohio). A host of caring family members, cousins, friends, church family and our Bordeaux Hill Family (Wilson, Cartmell, Drivers) and so many more to name. Just know we love each and every one who came.
