A Life Well Lived
Barbara Jean Baker Douglas
̴SUNRISE ̴
On May 24, 1933 earth gained an angel by the name of Barbara Jean Baker. This heavenly gift was born to the late Jesse Howard and Pearl Baker in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the only girl of four children, brothers Jesse Howard, Jr., Robert Earl and James Seward Baker, all of whom precedes her in eternal rest.
At an early age she professed her life to Christ. She was baptized at Progressive Baptist Church, Nashville, Tennessee. She later joined Clark Memorial United Methodist Church of Nashville. She was affectionately known as Barbara Jean to those who lovingly knew her.
She was educated in the Nashville Public School system, graduating from Pearl High School in 1951. After graduating she attended Tennessee A&I College now known as Tennessee State University. Her focus was Cosmetology, beauty was her business. Through her skills and creativity she inspired women to look their best.
̴MIDDAY ̴
Barbara Jean Baker captured the attention of a U.S. Army Soldier by the name of Mansfield Douglas III, who was love struck from the moment he saw her. In June of 1957, Mansfield and Barbara Jean were joined in holy matrimony. Together they brought five beautiful children into the world, three of whom preceding them in eternal rest.
They shared fifty-two beautiful years together as husband and wife. There was nothing they could not accomplish together. “Inseparable is what they were”. Barbara was a strong faithful child of God, she possessed an inner strength that words could not define. She allowed nothing to stand in her way.
̴SUNSET ̴
Barbara Jean Baker Douglas departed this earthly home on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015. She will be missed tremendously. But thanks to “Momma”, we have the inner strength she imparted to us, and the love we have for one another will help us make it in life. What a GREAT INHERITANCE and we are truly thankful for that. We love you Momma and can hardly wait to see you again.
