Bertha Walker Church, 73, was born May 22,1945 in Chattanooga, TN. She passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was retired from the State of Tennessee as Executive Assistant to former Speaker of the House, Jimmy Naifeh for 18 years and former Speaker Kent Williams for two years. She attended Tennessee State University in Nashville and was a graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1963. She had made her home in Nashville since 1964 and was a faithful member of Christ the King Parish in Nashville.
Bertha is predeceased by brothers John H. McWhorter and David L. McWhorter; step-father- John H. McWhorter, II.; Grandfather - George Walker.
She was the beloved wife of James (Jimmy) Church and the adoring mother of her only child, Jimi S. Church. She also leaves behind to cherish her memories, Mother: Marian McWhorter, Chattanooga; Sisters: Carol (Robert)Thomas, Chattanooga and Sandra Brinson, Jacksonville, Fla.; Devoted Niece: Monica (Emeri) Gordon, Chattanooga; Niece: Lisa Hinton, Hamilton, New Jersey; Nephews: Robert (Sheniqua) Thomas, II, Jason (Kenya) Thomas, both of Chattanooga, CW2/P John H. McWhorter IV, Niceville, Fla; Derrick (Regina), Jason(Angela ) and Willie Brinson, all of Jacksonville, Fla; Step-children: Rosalind Dingle (David) Chicago, Ill; Joetta Tharpe, Mansfield, TN, Jasmine Church, Rev. Tim Gaines (Maria), Wendell Bigsby, Nathan Woodard, Donald Granberry all of Nashville, TN. and other nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.
