Childress “Junebug” Sawyers Sr. was born on March 18, 1955 to Childress and Mary McCutcheon. Childress departed this earthly life on Tuesday, June 09, 2020 after a lengthy illness. His parents preceded him in death as well as six siblings, Eugene and Andrew Sawyers, Bobby, Donnie, Angel, and Raymond McCutcheon.
Childress’s youth and early young adult years were spent in Providence, Rhode Island and the remaining joyful years of his life were spent in Nashville, TN. He enjoyed watching football and basketball.
Childress's firstborn was his beloved daughter, Chavonda. He was also afforded an opportunity to have a meaningful impact in the life of his stepdaughter, Trina. In November 1987, he was united in marriage to Jessie Martin. This union was blessed with three cherished sons, Childress Jr. “Papa”, Chane, and Jamaine. He was also blessed with another daughter, Shana.
Childress had a fun and loving spirit. His smile always lit up the room and his hysterical laugh always put a smile on everyone’s face. Childress dedicated himself to making others around him smile through humor. His constant attempts to say something funny either had you laughing with him or, more often, laughing at him. Either way his mission was accomplished. In addition, there is one thing everyone can agree on is he loved his kids and loved to brag about them as he told everyone the same detailed stories over and over full of hyperbole but 100% true to him. There are not a lot of people left in this world that can effectively express the life and energy he projected. For that reason, he will truly be missed by so many.
He was loved very much by his family and enjoyed being around family and friends.
Childress leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Chavonda Baker of Charlotte, NC, Trina Rezendes of Atlanta, GA, Childress Jr. of Nashville, TN, Chane (Lindsey) of Los Angeles, CA, Jamaine Sawyers of Nashville, TN and Shana Barrett of Providence, Rhode Island; siblings, Dana (Ella) of Bowie, MD, Charles (Angelie) and Dimetra McCutcheon of Nashville, TN; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three aunts, one uncle, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
