Cora Ella Marlowe Chambers Pryor departed this life on Saturday, April 23, 2022. She was born June 1, 1935 in Hickman County, the ninth child of the late Mary Alice Hogan and Plummer Marlow. She attended the Hickman County School System and at a young age was baptized into Christ at the Center Star Church of Christ. She was a faithful and active member at Jackson Street Church of Christ.
Cora was a Ladies Bible Class Teacher, active with the Nursing Home Worship Service Team, Prison Ministry, visited the sick and mentored the younger women of the church. She was indeed a dedicated servant for the Lord. She was truly loved by not only her family but by everyone that has been blessed to meet her. Cora retired as a Health Care Provider after 40 years of service.
Cora relocated to Nashville and there she met and married the late William “Billy” Chambers, Jr. To this union three children were born, Victoria, William III and Shirley. After the death of Cora’s youngest sister, Elma, Cora and Billy agreed to love and raise Elma’s son Joseph Leonard as one of their own. Billy died in November 1969 and Joseph (Chunky) died in June 1985. On May 1, 1997 Cora married the late Robert L. Pryor.
Cora was also preceded in death by her father and mother, Plummer and Mary Alice Marlow; brothers, John Plummer, Walter Lee, Jimmy, William and Ezekiel Marlow; sisters, Nettie Dunn, Loutisia Hawkins, Elizabeth Hawkins, Elma Franklin, and two stepsons, William and Alvin Wilson.
Cora leaves to cherish her memory her children, Victoria (Ricky) Caldwell, William (Josephine) Chambers, III and Shirley Griffin; grandchildren , Tygima Steele , James (Tonette) Crenshaw, Liana (Benjamin) Maxwell , Erica Brown, Ricky Jr. (Maricruz) Caldwell, Rodney (Kori) Caldwell, and Randy Caldwell; great-grandchildren , James, Joi Ella, Benjamin III, Jayce, and Avia; sister, Thelma Watkins; Goddaughter, Celestine Love and a host of other family and devoted friends
Public Viewing Tuesday, May 3rd from 1-7pm (family present 5-7pm) at Highland Hills Funeral Home, 2422 Brick Church Pike. Visitation Wednesday, May 4th from 11am-12 noon with funeral to follow at Schrader Lane Church of Christ, 1234 Schrader Lane. Interment Middle TN State Veterans Cemetery.
