Retired District Chief Henry Booker Jr.

Henry Booker Jr., was born August 7,1953 to Pastor Henry Booker, Sr and Louise Booker -Oliver in Nashville, Tennessee. He departed this earthly life on July 27, 2018.

Henry accepted Christ as Savior at an early age at the Saint James M. B. Church under the pastorate of the late Morgan Frierson where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He later united with the Temple Church in 2012 under Pastor Darrell A. Drumwright, where he served on the Wellness Healthcare Ministry and a part of the Iron Man bible study.

Henry was educated in the Nashville Public School system and a graduate of Stratford High School class of 1971. He received his Paramedic License from UT of Nashville in 1980, and attended Tennessee State University, where he received an Associate Degree in Medical Assistance.

Henry was married to Neller Faye McMillan for 21 years, who preceded him in death. To this union were born two children, Verdell and Corey.  Several years later in 2014, he met Deborah Mullins and was united in matrimony December 15, 2016.

Henry started in the ambulatory  business at the young age of 16 at Holmes Funeral Home. He started working for the Metro Nashville Fire Department in 1974 as an EMT, then became a Paramedic in 1976. Henry was promoted to District Chief September 16,1999. During his tenure Henry received several awards and honors. After 36 years of service with MNFD he retired as District Chief. Henry also worked as a Paramedic for several emergency services and hospitals.

One of Henry’s two favorite things he took much pride in and enjoyed was cooking and baking. Henry loved cooking for family, friends, and at the Fire Hall.  Henry mastered his Mother’s famous Chess Pie recipe and cooking on the grill.  When it came to cooking and baking he didn’t think anyone else could top him!  The second thing Henry took pride in was his style of dressing. Much like his mother, he wasn’t completely dressed without his hat, which often led him to be called Cat Daddy by his family members. He was a great man of statue known for his sharp dressing.

Henry rarely met a stranger, and through his loving and caring ways developed lots of great friendships with the Metro Nashville Fire Department and Church Families.

Henry leaves to cherish his devoted wife, Deborah M. Booker; children Verdell Booker and Corey Booker; stepchildren, Maria Mullins, Sequia (Meiche) Grandberry, Curalina Davis and Donald Davis; grandchildren, Isreya Osborne, Taylor Booker, and Kinsley Booker; step grandchildren, Jakaihya, Makayla, Jayla, Jamari, Delaynie, and Dylan; sister, Mary (Wardell) Chisholm; brothers, Carl (Dot) Booker and Michael (Lyn) Booker; devoted nieces, Cheryl Eppenger and Zina Hicks, Katherine, Kristen, Bre’ana, and Daresa; devoted nephew, Kenneth Booker, Carl Jr, and Devonte; devoted great niece, Quanisha (Willie) Keel, and devoted great nephew, Quantas Hicks;  a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; devoted friends, Floyd Murrell, Childress family, Eugene Watkins, Thomas Cartmell, and L. Tyner.
