Dorothy Lee Starling was born on February 20, 1941 in Summerville, GA to the late Corrine Jordan and John Wesley Starling Jr. She entered into heavenly rest on October 1, 2015.
Dorothy moved to Nashville, TN where she received an education in the Metropolitan Davidson County School System. She loved to cook and worked her magic at various restaurants throughout the city. Dorothy retired from David Lipscomb University after many years of dedication.
Dorothy professed Christ at an early age and united with Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church. In 1976,
on a cold Christmas morning, she renewed her commitment to Christ and was baptized at First Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. James Armstrong. Dorothy loved her church and served faithfully even through her illness. She served on the Missionary Society, Usher Board, and Choir. She was also a Member of the Eastern Star Chapter 4.
Dorothy was a great example of Christian love and hospitality. She was quick to extend her hospitality to anyone in need. People were often drawn to her home for love, support, and encouragement they were sure to find.
Dorothy loved her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by sister, Pearline Starling; and brothers, Wilbert and John Starling III.; Survived by devoted children daughters, Sunera Bakare, Marquita Y. Starling-Cole , Karen (Franklin) Starling- Elliott, Annette Starling; Sons, David (Tameka) Starling, and Sandot Joyce; sister, Alberita B. Wilson; brother, Billy Starling; devoted grandchildren, Sierra (Larry) Gooch, Kierra ( Cortney) Prather, Tierra ( Cornelius) Etherly, Dawaynna Morris, Terri Starling, Christian Starling, Jermale Cole, Jeremy Cole, Hakeem Bakare, Saquira Jinks, DaVetria Starling, DaVontre Starling, David Starling Jr. and Jada Starling; great grandchildren, Larriona Gooch, Kennedii Prather, Kaitlyn Etherly, Abby Prather, Cortney Prather Jr., Cornelius Etherly Jr., devoted nieces, nephews & cousins; devoted friends, Deacon Oscar Cole, Mary Bracey, Carol Perkins, Hannah Bell, Thomas Young and Christina O'Saile; God children, Paula Johnson, Pam Nelson, Kevin Polk, Vanessa Robinson and Valerie Lockett.
