Today we pay tribute to Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr., who departed this life on Monday, March 8, 2021. Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. was born in Belvidere, Tennessee, on October 28, 1935, to the late Edgar and Amy Marie Rutledge. He joins in union with his late sister Barbara (Tom) Peacock and brother Veteran Fredrick Rutledge.
Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. attended public schools and graduated in Belvidere, Tennessee. Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mother Mary Rutledge for 63 years. Their union was blessed with one son, Maxie Goff (Rose), and four girls,
Lisa Rutledge-Simmons (Sean), Kelma Goff, Kimberly Goff, and Elizabeth Harper (Kenny).
Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. enjoyed spending time with his late wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. was the famous football coach of “The Green Mean Fighting Machine Football Team, for several years of the Bordeaux Community. Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. enjoyed grilling during the summer and definitely making people smile by telling jokes, he was known as “Daddy,” “Putt,” and “Short Fiery Preacher Man to some, including the entire Buena Vista neighborhood and the Primitive Baptist Denomination. Most of all Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. loved the Lord and his favorite hymn was, “Do Lord Show Me the Way.” Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr was a baptized faithful member of the Jones Tabernacle Primitive Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board for many years until his calling to preach. Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. received the calling from God to start preaching, which he pastored: St. James (Mt. Pleasant, TN) and Mt. Aarat (Columbia, TN) Primitive Baptist Church for 37 yrs. Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. also served as the Moderator of the Ironside United Primitive Baptist Association for 20 years. Elder Edgar Rutledge, Jr. was a mentor and example of life to so many people.
Saddened by his home going, but yet rejoicing in his victory, remains his grandchildren, great grandchildren, host of cousins, Green Mean Fighting Machine Football Team, and many dear friends.
