Edmond Cato Jr. (Punkin) was Born June 5, 1939 to the union of Edmond Cato Sr., and Martha Jane Herbert Cato. He was preceded in death by father, Edmond Cato Sr.; mother, Martha Jane Cato; son, Howard Cato; and sister, Helen Roberts Edmond fell asleep in death Wednesday March 26, 2014.
Edmond was warmly named “Punkin” by his oldest sister Mary on the day he came home from the hospital. Mary said she thought he looked like a big orange pumpkin.
Edmond received his education from Nashville Public Schools. Edmond played for the Nashville Negro Baseball League. His childhood friends Theodore Gentry said he was the best of his time.
Edmond married the love of his life Linda A. Teasley July 26, 1960. To this union seven (7) children were born.
Edmond was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, July 2, 1988.
Those who know Edmond knew that he was a devoted family man, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, friend & fisherman.
Edmond leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 53 years, Linda A. Cato; four daughters, Mildred (Thomas) Gilbert,Carla Cato, Toshebia Cato-Holt, Deonza Cato ( Undra) Matthews ; two sons, Edmond (Duana) Cato, and Timothy (Yvette) Cato; twelve grandchildren; and out of twelve there were two very devoted grandchildren, DeShawn & Dallas; 2 loving sister, Mary Pirtle of Brooklyn, NY and Eddie Scruggs of Nashville, TN.; devoted brother, Herbert Cato, of Nasville, TN; mother-in-law, Anne Teasley; 3 brothers-in-law, Howard Teasley, Ellensburg, Washington, Eugene Teasley, of Columbia City, Oregon, and Daryell Teasley of San Diego, CA; other relatives and friends.
