Ernest Eugene Lewis

Quietly on December 30, 2023, Ernest E. Lewis slipped away making his peaceful transition to his heavenly home.

Ernest was born on October 16, 1955 to parents, Rufus Hughes and Opal Helen Sweat Thomas. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brother, Arthurnal “Pete” Sweat, and stepfather, James Thomas.

Ernest received his formal education in the school systems of Cheatham and Davidson Counties. Upon completing school, he enlisted in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge.

Ernest united with Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in the spring of 1991. He sang in the Brotherhood Chorus, Sanctuary Choir, and served on the Senior Usher Board. He loved the Lord and served until his health began to decline. Ernest met the love of his life, Enid P. Babb and was united in holy matrimony on May 30, 1998.

Ernest worked for a number of years as a welder. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, admiring old school classic cars, listening to the blues, and loved playing Jumbo Bucks.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories and celebrate his life his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Enid Babb Lewis; daughters, Denesha Lewis, Aleka Shaw, and Tiqua Shaw; son, Xavier E. Shaw Jr.; brother, R.L. Lewis; aunt, Mary Collier; mother-in-law, Betty White Babb; sisters-in-law, Nieta Babb, Forvia Babb-Noel (Tem), and Shtrena Tucker Lee (Tony); son-in-law, Andrew Whitefield; devoted godson, Xavier Whitaker; God Parents, Sammie and Addie “Shirley”Jenkins Sr.; devoted godbrothers, Larry Reams, Temmie Noel, Sammie Jenkins Jr., Tracey Jenkins, Donnel Collier, Roland Williams, Clarence Bell, Joe Hicks, and Virgil Wilson; devoted godsisters, Marilyn Jenkins and Wilma Hughes; loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
