Frieda’s Life Journey

Frieda Loretta Shute (affectionately known as Fee-Fee) began her journey on April 19,1960 in Nashville, TN where she was born to the late Clara Lucille and Andrew Bernard Shute Sr. Frieda's early educational years were spent in Metro Nashville Public Schools. Following graduation from McGavock High School, she attended Tennessee State University. While there, she found delight in being a flag girl in the Tennessee State Aristocrat of Bands. She continued her educational studies in California. As a young woman, Frieda met Edward “Chico” Simmons Sr. Soon after, they entered into holy matrimony on November 14,1979. Upon marrying Edward, she became the proud mother of Edward Monroe Simmons Jr. and Lamesia Archelle Simmons. The love of these two parents resulted in the births of two additional children, Lamonte Miguel and Kendra LaFrieda. Edward was a Small Arms Specialist and Computer Analyst in the United States Army. As a military wife, Frieda found much joy in the opportunity to travel and expose her children to different cultures. One of the most memorable times of her life was living in Germany. While there, Frieda became enamored with the German culture. A few years later, her travels led her back to the States where she resided in California and Texas. While there, she was a very active member of the soft ball leagues as she has always been a lover of sports, both as a spectator and a participant. She eventually settled back in her home town of Nashville, TN where her interest in sports led her to join a local bowling league. Frieda's true passion was cooking. It brought her great joy to experiment with recipes as well as provide comfort to family and friends through her cuisine. Frieda's love for food began in her childhood family kitchen where she studied and mimicked her Aunt Fannie's recipes. In recent years Fee-Fee began to document and save her creative cuisine ideas as it was her desire to have her ideas published. We will forever remember the aromas of southern cuisine that consistently permeated from Fee-Fee's kitchen.
