Gabrielle (Gabby) Chenese Chatman was born on May 7, 1990 in Nashville, Tennessee to Urushla LaPriesta Atkins and the late Gordon Craig Chatman, Sr. She transitioned from this life on May 21, 2016, preceded by her paternal grandfather, John Chatman and her loving aunt, Cherritta Atkins Ukeje.
Our angel leaves to cherish her passing, her loving mother, Urushla LaPriesta Atkins, her devoted brother, Gordon Craig Chatman, Jr., her maternal grandfather, Bobby Atkins, her maternal grandmother, Joyce Atkins, her paternal grandmother Deloris (Harry) Ford, aunts, Zenardra (Laurelston) O’Garro, Paula Chatman, Carmen (Lamont) Brown, Lawanda (William) Chatman Buchanan, an uncle, Theodore (Felicia) Chatman, a great aunt, Patricia Brunson of Memphis, Tennessee, and a host of loving cousins.
Gabby burst into this world on May 7, 1990, 12 1/2 weeks premature. The neonatologist took her into his arms and ran with her to the intensive care unit in order to save her life. When she was discharged from the hospital 3 months later, the family was told she would not survive past her first year. Gabby entered into eternal rest on May 21, 2016 at the age of 26.
Gabby received her education at Harris Hillman (Special Education) School. She amazed her teachers, assistants and other professionals with her tenacity, strong spirit and her smile.
Gabby had numerous medical issues that caused multiple stays in the hospital. Often times the doctors gave a grave prognosis, however we would leave the hospital with the doctors in awe!
Gabby was very interactive with those who knew her best. She became especially lively around her brother, Gordon. Her aunt Cherry crowned her “Diva” at an early age and she was treated accordingly. From the twice daily rub downs with shea butter to the hundreds of movies she had to the stylish clothes she wore, Gabby was treated like the Angelic Diva she was.
Gabby was able to stay at home her entire life with the help of a team of nurses. To all who participated in the care of Gabby during her 26 years, the family is truly grateful.
The family of Gabrielle Chenese Chatman is especially indebted to Joann White, Mathe King, Lorenta Hogue, Elizabeth Hurd and Cherritta Ukeje, who have preceded her in death. Their meticulous care of Gabby defeated all odds.
