Gilbert was born June 14, 1936 to Gilbert H. Brown Sr. and Hazel Malone. He was the second of three children.
At an early age he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and he was beloved member of Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church. He was educated in the public school system of Davidson County.
He leaves to cherish and celebrate his life children, Meta Louise (James) Walker, Norman Benjamin (Lucretia) Brown, Mark Templeton (Daphne) Brown Sr., Gilbert LeJuan (Kevanda) Alexander; former wife and life-long friend, Martha J. Brown; sister, Evangeline (Rev. Samuel) Davis; eleven grandchildren and a host relatives and friends
