Reflection on the Life and Times of
Henry Tallahkai Moore, Sr.
March 13, 1948 – July 21, 2016
Henry Tallahkai Moore, Sr., a dedicated family man, displayed immense courage during his time in battle, provided unlimited love to his family and was devoted to God. He embarked on his pilgrimage some 68 years ago that celebrated excellence as a god-fearing man.
Henry Tallahkai Moore, Sr. was born on March 13, 1948, in Tallah Township, Grand Cape Mount County, Republic of Liberia, West Africa, to the late Joseph Moore and the late Mamia Freeman. He was the first of his many brothers and one sister. Mr. Moore walked many miles to and from the Episcopal Elementary School in Robertsport Township, Grand Cape Mount County. Henry completed his secondary education at William V. S. Tubman High School in Monrovia, Liberia. At an early age, Henry accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized.
When Henry completed his secondary education, he worked for the Bank of Liberia as a bookkeeper. In the summer of 1972, he was given an opportunity and traveled to the United States where he enrolled and studied at American Baptist Theology Seminary in Nashville, Tennessee. To further his education, Henry attended Draughon’s Business College and Belmont College. While at Belmont College, Henry became a member of Belmont United Methodist Church, serving the church as an usher. Henry completed his Discipleship Ministries course work and was a member of the Stephen Ministries. Throughout Henry’s journey he was a member of Seay-Hubbard United Methodist Church and World Covenant Church. Henry finished his journey as a member of Belmont United Methodist Church.
Henry was introduced to his beautiful wife, Catherine S. Moore, by her sister in December 1970. He later married Catherine in May 1974 after asking her father, the late Samuel William Allen, for her hand in marriage. Henry loved his wife and they raised three children together.
Throughout his long career, Henry was a spirited provider to his family. He was a dedicated employee who maintained United Parcel Service (UPS) trailers and served many years in the capacity of a caregiver at McKendree Village, doing God’s work retiring October 2010. He completely retired from employment in August 2013.
Henry lived a productive life and entertained family and friends with music and cooking African dishes. Henry was a unique dancer. He was proud of his Liberian African heritage, and was a loyal fan the Washington Redskins, Tiger Woods and NASCAR. He was a compassionate husband and father, who loved to put into pictures memorable stories of his upbringing. Henry loved to sing. One of his favorites was singing “Happy Birthday” to his co-workers and family.
Henry is survived by his wife, Catherine S. Moore; his three children, Henry Jr., Kahata and Mamia Moore; two grandchildren, Isaiah B. Moore and Jeremiah K. Clark; his stepmother, siblings, cousins; step mother; siblings, and a host of nieces and nephews.
