Iantha Vivian Martin Beard Jones was born November 30, 1930 in Nashville, Tennessee to William and Amie Lucy Knight Martin. She made her heavenly transition on Thursday, February 08, 2018.
Iantha accepted Christ at an early age and united with First Baptist Church, East Nashville; Bethel AME-Oxnard, CA; served on the Mother’s Board at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Antioch, TN.
Iantha received her education in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools at Meigs Elementary School and Pearl High School. Later in years she went to the University of Tennessee, Downtown Nashville and Oxnard Junior College.
Ianthe served in many capacities in several organizations such as: Meigs School PTA president, serviced on Ventura Grand Jury, Bethel AME Cathedral Choir, Charter member of the Black American Political Association of California, NAACP, Chairperson of Voter registration for Oxnard County and Member of the 20th Century Oxen Club, just to name a few.
Ianthe was employed as an Office Manager at Meharry Hospital Business Office and an office Supervisor at Human Services County of Ventura. And her favorite hobbies were sewing, reading and music.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Lee Beard Sr., and Fredrick Christopher Jones; parents, William and Amie Lucy Knight Martin; sisters, Theresa Whiteside and Mary Jordan; brothers, William Martin and Arthur Martin; and one daughter, Regina Beard Lewis Bell.
Ms. Jones leaves to cherish her memories: six children, Rolph Beard (Erma) of Sumter, SC, Roger-Nicolas Beard (Darlene) of Oakland, CA, Vivian Enez Smith (Ralph), Ola Mullins, Samuel Beard, Jr., and Steven Beard (Rhonda) of San Diego, CA., a number of grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a devoted sister-in-law, Lea Ella Martin and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and devoted friends.
Family will receive friends Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. ~ 6:00 p.m. at Highland Hills Funeral Home, 2422 Brick Church Pike.
Visitation Monday, February 19, 2018 from 12:00 Noon with funeral to follow at 1:00 P. M. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 4923 Ottenville Avenue, Antioch, Tennessee 37013 with Reverend Royal L. Byars, Officiant and Pastor Dr. Gary B. Murray, Eulogist .
