Iyapo Lucious Kontar age 74, of Hermitage transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Wednesday, October 15, 2014.
Iyapo Lucious Kontar, Sr., was the only child of George Ellis Gooden, Sr. and Christine Regulus born on September 14, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio. He departed this life on October 15, 2014. He is preceded in death by both parents and his son, David Jones.
Iyapo was affectionately raised along with his cousins, by his grandfather, Lucious Regulus and grandmother, Addie Mae Regulus.
Iyapo attended and graduated from Dunbar High School. He furthered his education and attended Central State University.
Iyapo served in the United States Navy being honorably discharged in November 1964.
He served as president of NAACP in Maury County. He later worked at the Boys and Girls Club of Middle Tennessee where he retired as Program Director in 2001.
Iyapo enjoyed fishing, sharing colorful stories, bowling, golf and keeping up with current events. He dedicated himself to helping disadvantaged youth and uplifting those in need throughout his entire life.
Iyapo Kontar, Sr., leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his devoted wife of 36 years, Melba Casey Kontar. He fathered seven children, Carmen Gooden, Vincent Gooden, Tanya Gooden, Akil Kontar, Iyapo Kontar, Jr. and Shawn Kontar-Sparks; step mother, Leslie Gooden. He is the grandfather of 17 children and great grandfather of 4 children. A host of other relatives and friends.
