James Brown’s life can be characterized by his generous and giving spirit. To know him was to love him, for he never met a stranger.
James was the eighth of twelve children, born on January 5, 1946, to Dennis Brown and Mary Brown, who preceded him in death along with his brother, Dennis Brown Jr., sisters Joann Brown and Frankie Lightfoot. James and his siblings shared a close relationship throughout their entire lives.
He was born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi; and educated in the public school system. He accepted Christ at an early age at St. John Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi. James was in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967, where he was a para-trooper with the 101st Airborne stationed in Fort Campbell, KY.
He attended Alcorn State University from 1967- 1969 while there he played baseball. He was offered an opportunity to play professional baseball but he chose to take care of his family.
James married the love of his life Ella Rogers on June 17, 1969. They had two beautiful children Victor L. Brown and Crystal D. Brown. He worked at “TVA” Tennessee Valley Authority for 14 years. He retired from the State of Tennessee.
He was a Big Outdoorsman. He loved to fish, hunt, garden, and watch “ALL” sports. He had a garden every year, and he loved the Dodgers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Tennessee Titans. It was Wednesday June 18 when God called his angel home.
