Janice Marie Pearson, born Janice Marie Johns in Ypsilanti, Michigan on May
17, 1950, to the late Mary Elizabeth “Sis” (Johns) Charleston and the late James
Rupert. She was the oldest of 6 children. She was known to her family and friends as
“Granny”. She is predeceased by her son George (Bebop) Pearson, Jr and Daughter
Khahala (KP) Pearson, and brothers Derrick Johns and Cornell Charleston,
Janice grew up in Waverly, TN then moved to Nashville as a child. She attended MNPS
and graduated from Cameron High School in 1968. As a child she went to Mt. Bethel
M.B. North and as a teen she attended Trinity A.M.E., South. Janice had an amazing
Golden Voice. She could sing any song at any range and octave. Singing was in her
blood, and she kept a smile on others face when she sung. Janice was “the Life of the
Party”. There was always a song in her heart. Some of her favorite artists are Patty,
Chaka, Whitney, Glady’s, Aretha, Diana, Etta, Stephanie, and others. Her favorite
Gospel Artists is T. Mann, Lady Corder Chapman, Mary Mary, Clark Sisters, and others.
She also loved to sew.
Janice worked several jobs, she worked at Genesco, DHS, Lea and Nokes, Elks
Lounge, TSA, Denny’s, Executive, Mr. C’s, Classic, $1.99, and other dry-cleaning
companies periodically.
Janice is survived by her daughter Tari E. Pearson, 6 Grandchildren: Dedrea (John)
Bigsby, De’ja Pearson, Theron Pearson, Tiandre’ Pearson, Adrian Pearson, Primeonte’
Brooks; 26 great grandchildren; Sisters: Delores Johns, Denise Beverly, Brother
Charles (Fannie Mae) Johns, 5 Aunts, 5 uncles, a host of nieces and nephews, friends
Jackie Cox-Waters, Colleen Williams, Kimberly Frierson, Peggy Moore, and a host of
cousins, friends, and associates.
Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and they praises her. Many
women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Proverbs 31:28-29
