Age 80, departed this life November 23, 2015.
Jay Maupins, an only child, was born to the late Lena Mae Maupins and Buster Daniels on November 8, 1935, in Tullahoma, Tennessee. He received his education in the Coffee County Public School System. Jay accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age at Shorter Chapel AME Church in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
He was employed with Gibbs Brothers Construction, Inc. for over 30 years until his health begin to fail. He enjoyed cooking and watching sports. Baseball and football were his favorite. Despite their ups and downs, he remained a true fan of America's team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Jay was preceded in death by his son, Demetrius Smith and grandson, Qadirious Mateen.
He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted children, Samuel Maupins and Lavonya (Reginald) Cooper; daughters, Jerri (John) Currie, Talinda (Samuel) Wilkerson, Tracy McMillian and Tiffaney (David) Gibson; sons, Shea McMillian and Terry Pitts; devoted granddaughters, Ingrid (Marlon) Hilton and Reggina Cooper; thirteen other grandchildren, Reginald Cooper, Shondrai McMillian, John Bradley, Edward McMilian, John Currie Jr., Travis and Samuel Wilkerson, Athena Smith, Jasmine and Shea McMillian Jr., Carlos Franklin, Kaiden and Imagine Gibson; devoted great granddaughter, Jasmyne Mitchell; twenty-seven other great grandchildren; cousins, Mary K., Bertha and James Maupins all of Tullahoma, Tennessee; devoted friends, Dora Cooper, Geneva McMillian and Wanda Jordan and a host of great cousins.
Visitation Friday, November 27, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00p.m., with funeral to follow at Highland Hills Funeral Home, 2422 Brick Church Pike, Nashville, TN.
Interment Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., in Evergreen Cemetery, Tullahoma, Tennessee.
