John Lee Hughes, Sr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee on September 10, 1938 to Charles Aaron and Lillian Hughes, who preceded him in death. John attended Nashville schools before joining the Army at the age of 17. John also had a brother, Charles Aaron Hughes, Jr. who preceded him in death. John trained as a paratrooper and served in the Army for 20 years. John was last stationed at Fort Campbell, KY where he retired at the end of his career in 1975.
He was the recipient of several awards, including the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Viet Nam. After retirement, he operated a store, Hughes Chek Market in Nashville until 1980.
John is survived by his wife, Margaret, two sons, Torian and John Jr, sister, Cora Perry, dear cousin, Ethylene Bailey. He is also have several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
John loved to build and repair and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He meant so much to all of and he well be truly missed from our presence.
