Ms. Juanita Mumphrey, age 82 transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
Juanita Maxine Mumphrey, a native of Nashville, Tennessee, was born on November 1, 1937 to Elder Nathaniel A. Mumphrey Sr. and Mattie Price Mumphrey.
Juanita was educated in the Nashville Public Schools of Davidson County, and a graduate of Pearl High School. She continued her education at Tennessee A & I University, where she earned her Bachelor’s and Mas- ter’s degree in Education. Juanita was an educator in the public school system, and retired after 30 plus years of teaching. After her retirement,
Juanita worked briefly for BNA Airport and Lifeway Christian.
Juanita affectionately called Nene, accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age, and was united with First Baptist Church - West Nashville, under the leadership of Reverend Walter A. Jenkins. Later she united with Immanuel Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Rev James Cook, where she was a devoted choir member. In her later years she united with the Temple Church under Pastor Darrell A. Drumwright. Juanita lived a sweet quiet life. She was filled with Godly wisdom and spiritually walked in faith. She had a beautiful smile with a wonderful heart, and would give you the world if she could. Juanita was well known in the gospel realm and blessed with an angelic melodious voice which she used for the uplifting of God’s Kingdom. Juanita was an original member of the renowned Dewitt Johnson Ensemble. She was also skilled as a beautician and playing the piano. Some of her favorite hobbies were shopping and working in the yard.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents - Elder Nathaniel A. Mumphrey, Sr and Mattie Price Mumphrey, and her brother Elder Nathaniel A. Mumphrey, Jr.
Juanita leaves to cherish her memory, devoted nieces: Janice M. Marlowe, Faye M. Greene, and Barbara A. Collier; a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; devoted God-sister Helen Harris; devoted God-daughter Valerie Harris; devoted friend Richard Jones; with a host of other special relatives and friends too numerous to name. to cherish her memories.
