Leland Bryant Nuby was born on May 5, 1958 to the union of the late Ivory Nuby Sr. and Gladys Elizabeth Matlock Nuby. Leland was the youngest male out of six children. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Willie Savely and Charlotte Jones. On July 23, 2018 God in his infinite wisdom called Leland from his Nashville residence to live with Him in his Heavenly home.
Leland professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend John L. Copeland.
Leland was educated in the Metro Nashville Public Schools and graduated from North High School in 1977. Leland attended and graduated from Tennessee Area Vocational School and became a certified machinist. Leland worked at Betty’s Machine Shop for several years until he became disabled. Leland was a hard worker and was always willing to work odd jobs with various family members and friends over the last 35 years.
Leland enjoyed music and played lead guitar in a neighborhood band. Some joked that the band was called “Hound dog and the fleas.” He earned the nickname “Hound dog” chasing after his childhood sweetheart, Debra Heyward. Leland’s greatest passion was fishing and he would go as often as he could. He also enjoyed cooking, eating and watching television.
Leland loved his family and they loved and adored him in return. He helped take care numerous nieces and nephews over the years by cooking meals, getting them on and off the school bus, walking them through the “path” from one house to another and many other tasks. He was especially fond of Kenneth and Christie.
Leland leaves to cherish his memory three siblings, Grant (Vanessa) Nuby, Ivory Nuby Jr., and Sherron Heyward; nephews: Kenneth, Jason and Justin Jones, Danny Heyward Jr., Ivory Nuby III, Dariel and Phillip Gaines and Travis Stewart; nieces: Lisa Johnson, Raquel Reed, Christie Colley, Kesha Ford, Michelle Nuby and Yolanda Daniels; A number of great nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law: Edward Jones and Danny Heyward Sr; and a host of other relatives and friends.
