Leon Mathis was born July 24, 1951 in Nashville, TN to Landon and Mary Floyd. He was in the last graduating class of the original famous Cameron High School.
He attended The Tennessee State University, as a Political Science Major, were he participated in ROTC, and was a member of The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, basketball and attending TSU Football and Basketball games.
His greatest passion was his job with the Metro Public Library, which he held for 32 years before retiring as Children's Librarian, working at EdgeHill, Green hills, Storefront, and sometimes Hadley and Bordeaux Branches, loving mostly the Children's Story hour.
Leon was married to Linda Taylor on August 11, 1975, and this union they shared two children.
He leaves to cherish his memory, dedicated wife of 45 years, Linda, son, Dedrick (Nikki)Mathis, daughter, Angela (William) Haynes, 7 grandchildren, Shyneka (Sean) Mathis, Tiara Young, Austin Hayes, Torian Hayes, Aniya Haynes, Sadie Patterson, and Dedrick (DJ) Mathis, Jr. 1great grandson, Jatavion (JT) Culnane. Brother, Willie (Vanessa) Mathis. A host of In laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
