Madlyon Waters, 77, departed this life on January 20, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Madlyon was born on January 15, 1946, in Nashville, TN to Ozell and Juanita Liggett (who both proceeded her in death). She had two siblings who also proceeded her in death: Frederick Liggett and Paula Pope. She is survived by a devoted husband of 55 years, Charles Waters Sr; four loving children: Charles Waters Jr (Deonesha), Dayna Waters, Jawanza Wetzel (Toni), and Donna Vaughn (DeShawn); six siblings: Francis Liggett (Vanessa), Kenneth Liggett (Sophia), William Paul Liggett (Rita), Christopher Liggett (Vickie), Angela Smart (Reginald), and Anthony Liggett; seven grandchildren: Brittney, Tracey, Justin, Alexander, Kayla, Aniya, and Jon; two great-grandchildren: Leighton and Jordyn; and a ton of additional family and friends.
Madlyon retired from the Metropolitan Board of Education after 27 years of employment. For many years she was an active member of Sisters Network of Nashville, an organization that mentors and educates black breast cancer survivors, after having battled and conquered breast cancer herself over 25 years ago. She was a proud member of Rural Hill Church of Christ for more than 14 years where she faithfully served by her husband’s side.
What many may not know is that she never met a stranger and was always ready to assist anyone in need. Her talents were many: she was an excellent knitter, she created numerous electronic programs and cards for the various organizations she served, and she enjoyed wedding planning. Madlyon was a passionate reader, an avid world traveler, and she developed a love and a skill for growing and rehabilitating plants, the same as her beloved mother.
The family would be remiss if we didn’t mention a few of Madlyon’s closest friends: Dianne Williams, Carmen Turner, William and Debra Darnell, and Lena Hampton.
