Mansfield D. Neely Jr.

d. August 6, 2018

Mansfield Douglas Neely, Jr. was the eldest child, born March 21, 1933, in Nashville, Tennessee to Mansfield Sr. and Allie Mae Tunstall Neely. Both parents preceded him in death as well as his beloved wife, Evelyn Joyce Murray Neely; sister, Beverly Gail Neely; brother, Robert Allen Neely; and son-in-law, Arthur Lee Dunn.

Mansfield was educated in Nashville Catholic Schools and earned his High School diploma from Saint Emma’s Military Academy. Upon graduation, Mansfield joined the United States Army. After serving his country, he matriculated to Tennessee State University obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Mansfield worked in the family owned business, Neely and Son’s Pharmacy. He retired in 1992, as an educator, in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. He also worked for 25 years with the nationally known chain of Sears/Roebuck. After his 2nd retirement, he worked for Patton Brothers Funeral Homes in Nashville & Franklin and the Ted Rhodes Golf Course. He was an avid golfer, faithfully attending the annual Neckbone Golf Tournament and a long-time member of the Duffer’s Golf Club in Nashville. When he moved to Houston in 2007, he connected with the Brock Park Golf Course where he served as a Marshall until its closure.

Mansfield not only loved golf, he had a passionate love for Christ. As a lifetime Roman Catholic, he served and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nashville for over 50 years. Upon moving to Texas, he worshipped at St. Peter Claver where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and at St. Patrick’s. From 2013 to 2017, he attended Our Lady Star of the Sea and in January 2018, he joined Our Mother of Mercy.

Mansfield Jr. was a wonderful husband, a great father, a loving grandfather and friend. Cherishing his memories are his loyal and devoted Daughters, Toni Neely Dunn and Tanise Neely Jackson (Michael); Grandsons, Arthur Neely Dunn (Lauren), Benjamin Alan Jackson, and Alexander Michael Jackson (Jaquada); Sisters-in-law, Tommye Murray Briggs and Grace T. Neely; Nieces, Portia Lipkin and Lisa Burke; Nephews, Mark Neely, Anthony Neely and William Douglas Wright and his loyal pet, “Cookie”.

His addictive smile and humorous quick wit will be missed by all who knew him.
