Mrs. Margie Ree Patton, age 92 transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Sunday, November 15, 2020.
Margie Ree Patton was born October 23, 1928 in Marengo, County Alabama to Ethel Young and Kirby Blackmon, both preceding her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Henry L. Patton, and brother Riley Hackworth.
Margie professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a member of Pilgrim Immanuel Baptist Church and later along with her husband joined First Baptist Church South Inglewood under the pastorship of Rev. Thomas E. Sweeney Sr. She served for many years as a member of the Nurses Guild at First Baptist South Inglewood.
Margie was educated in the Marengo County Alabama Public School System. She later moved to Nashville. She was employed by Genesco for many years and later at the U S Tobacco company until retirement. She was a very warm and fun-spirited person. She loved her family unconditionally. She always enjoyed sharing with others. She was a good cook always having many special requests for a skillet of her delicious cornbread. She was a member of the Dollettes Social Club for several years. One of her bi-weekly treats was being pampered at the hair salon. Flossie Thompson was her hair stylist for over 40 years. One of her favorite past-times was taking trips to the casino with her bestie Ruth and other friends.
Margie leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted niece Margie Davis, loving and devoted step daughter Elaine (Alphonso) Adkins-Small; loving family members: grandson, Travis Adkins of Washington D.C., great niece Melanie (Michael) Calloway, great-great nephews and niece, Michael Calloway, Mason Calloway, Maxwell Calloway, and McKenzie Calloway, all of Covington, GA; brother Anthony Hill; nieces Sheila Ladson, Monique (Gary)Fletcher, Antoinette Hill, sister-in-law Evelyn Hackworth of Niagara Falls, NY, nephews Mark (Cynthia) Hackworth of Conyers, GA, Daryl Hackworth of Atlanta, GA, and Brian (Zina) Hackworth of St. Louis, MO; sisters Vester Blackman Small of New Brunswick, NJ, and Jean (Robert) Shamburger of Mobile, Al. Best friend Ruth Abernathy, Other close friends: Ernest “Flick” Floyd, Flossie Thompson, John Grigsby, Ann and Alberta Cummings, Martha Fentress, Susie Spears, and many other relatives and friends.
