Reflections of Marilyn Sue Holmes
Marilyn Sue “Susie” Holmes entered into life on August 25, 1953 in Nashville, TN to John Wesley Sr and Maryetta Holmes. She transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital.
Professing her faith in God at an early age, she was baptized at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. F. M. Spence. Marilyn was loyal to the church and very active. Marilyn, was one of the original members of Choir #3. She was also a member of The Young Women's Mission #10, The Women of Faith, The Voices of Greater St. John, Former President, and current member of The Rose of Sharon.
Marilyn received her education in The Metropolitan Nashville Public School System, graduating from Pearl High School in 1971 and was later employed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for 10 years. Marilyn spent several years as a caretaker for the Parson family .
Marilyn loved her family. She was a good kind hearted person who enjoyed cooking and inviting others over for dinner. She will be definitely missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Sr and Marietta Holmes; brother, John Wesley Holmes Jr; sister, Henrietta Holmes-Singleton, and nephew, Sean Holmes Sr.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, loving and devoted son, Kevin Sr.(Betty) Holmes; grandchildren, Kevin Jr, and Chari Allen; siblings, Gayle Holmes, Ollie McCaskill, Hazel Holmes, Casie Holmes; brother, Harry Holmes; devoted nieces, Pamela Steward, Tina, Lana, Gabrielle, LaToyia, Kimberly and Henrietta Holmes; devoted nephews, Leonardo Sr (Tammy), Wesley, James, Antonio, Anthony, and Stephano Holmes, and Bennie (Nikki) Johnson; devoted cousin, Charles Pitts Sr; devoted God-daughter, Angela Cousin-Carter; and a host of other family and friends.
Public viewing Monday, April 3, 2017 from 1-6pm, Highland Hills Chapel, 2422 Brick Church Pike. Family visitation Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 6-7pm with funeral to follow at Greater St John M.B. Church, 2200 26th Ave North @ Clarksville Hwy., with Pastor Herbert. T. Brown, eulogist. Interment 10am Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in Greenwood North Cemetery.
