Martha Jo (Morton) Durrett was born on November 06, 1946 in Nashville, Tenness to the late Jimmie Lee and Nathan Morton. She departed this earthly life in the late evening of March 22, 2021. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Durrett; brothers, Robert Perkins and Billie Morton; and sisters, Carolyn McLaurin, Marion Waddell, and Mildred Lee Morton.
Martha accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Mark Baptist Church here in Nashville, Tennessee. She re-dedicated her life and was baptized at Jefferson Street Baptist Church where she was an attentive member, loved by all.
Martha graduated from Masons College of Business and was a great gospel singer along side her sisters. They formed a group known as the Jasperetes. They were known to bring the house down with their anointed voices.
Her hobbies included playing cards, dancing, singing, and enjoying life among her family and friends.
Martha leaves to cherish children, Jimmy Durrett (Dananna Durrett), Monica Durrett (Al Winters) and Dale Durrett; sisters in law, Theresa Perkins and Helen Morton; grandchildren, Jeromy Durrett (Amanda Durrett), Nicholas Sharpe, Jada Durrett, DeCash Durrett, and Devin Durrett; great grandchildren, Khyron Durrett, Kaliyah Durrett, Elijah Sharpe, and Montana Durrett; first cousins, Dehaven Colston (Fred), Carolyn and Grady Morton of Kentucky, Betty Gaddy of LA, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
