Mrs. Martha Mai (Mayberry) Wood left this life to join our Lord and Savior on January 28, 2022. She was born to the late Porter Ann and Mary Lou (Hornbeak) Mayberry in Centerville, TN on April 21, 1934. Martha was one of five children: Roy Mayberry, Christine Blackburn, Louise Perkins, and Pauline Greer.
Martha matriculated through the Hickman County (TN) School System and was the valedictorian of her graduating class at O.H. Bernard High School. After high school, she became a licensed beautician and worked in Nashville, TN for many years. Martha loved to learn and continued to take classes ranging from advanced math to sewing well into her adult life.
On July 28, 1966, Martha was united in marriage to the late Eugene Franklin Wood, Sr, and to this union four children were born: Eugene Wood, Jr., Nathan Wood, Regina Cherry, and Trisha Holman. Martha was a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ at Jackson Street in Nashville, TN where she was part of the visitation team for many years. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the OWLS at Jackson Street as well. After marriage, Martha became a full-time homemaker. Raising her four children was her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sibling: Roy Mayberry, and son: Eugene (Kim) Wood, Jr.
She leaves, to cherish her memory, son: Nathan (Gina) Wood, Knoxville, TN., daughters: Regina (John) Cherry, Antioch, TN., and Trisha (Dewayne) Holman, who was her loving caregiver, LaVergne, TN., three sisters: Christine Blackburn, Louise (Clarence, deceased) Perkins, and Pauline (Kenneth Greer, Nashville, TN., grandchildren: Lorna Wood, Spencer Wood, and Natalie Wood, Knoxville, TN. Eugene Wood, III and Kennedy Wood, Macomb, MI. Marissa Holman and Rachel Holman LaVergne, TN. sisters-in-law: Theresa Smith, Maggie Locke, and Jurrell Wood, McMinnville, TN, nieces: Mary (Luis) Greer-Terrell, Angela Bertrand, Virgina Walton, Melanie Perkins, Anita Perkins, nephew: Kennard (Sharon) Blackburn and special aide/nephew Bernard Blackburn and a host of cousins. Very special friends, Jewel Gray, Ralph Boyd, and Gloria (Otto) Caldwell.
Martha will live lovingly in our hearts and memories forever. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.
