Marva Delight Smith of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away in the home of her daughter, Kelley Everett in Gilbert, Arizona on December 13, 2015, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Born on July 8, 1939 to William Howard and Fannie Mae Chambers, Marva was an excellent student, athlete and head majorette at Haynes High School in Nashville, Tennessee. As a young teenager, Marva took an interest in golf, frequenting the legendary Ted Rhodes Golf Course where she perfected her game. Marva attended Tennessee State University and eventually completed her Bachelor’s degree at Middle Tennessee State University in 1991.
Marva was elected as a County Commissioner of Coffee County in 1986. She was an active member in the community in Tullahoma, Tennessee, volunteering with the elderly population. She eventually moved back to Nashville, Tennessee, working for as a case worker in the elderly abuse division for the State of Tennessee. Marva was a faithful member of the Lane Street Church of Christ in Manchester, Tennessee.
Marva was an avid golfer, playing in multiple leagues in Nashville as well as in Chandler, Arizona. Upon retiring from the State of Tennessee, Marva became a substitute teacher, working in multiple school districts in Chandler, Mesa and Gilbert, Arizona, as well as performing as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels during the holiday season. Marva loved helping others, traveling and being with her grandchildren.
Marva was preceded in death by her brothers William Howard Chambers, Jr. and Charles Edward Chambers. Marva is survived by her children, Kelley Everett (Robert), Sherry Clark (Teddy), Marcus Harrell (Macaria), Donald Randolph Smith (Octavia), sisters Geraldine Warner (Clifford), Anita Warner (Charles), brothers Michael Chambers (Patricia Hagewood), Leslie Chambers (Inga), and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
