Mary Catherine Mcclendon

January 8, 1934 — November 5, 2022

Mary McClendon was born to the late Andrew Garfield Martin and Catherine Sublett Martin on January 8, 1934, in Antioch, TN.
Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age at 15th Avenue Baptist Church where she was a
member for the remainder of her life. She loved attending church and singing in the choir.
She graduated from Pearl High School in 1954 and attended Tennessee State University. Mary
retired from Vanderbilt University Medical Center after 35 years of service.
Mary wed the love of her life, Ben McClendon on June 13, 1959, and they were inseparable until the end
of his life. When you saw one you saw the other nearby. Their relationship was an example of pure love
and devotion.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mary loved traveling, water aerobics, reading,
cooking, and caring for her family.
Saddened by her passing, but leaning on God’s love remains her loving and devoted sons Kelvin
(Meika), Darryl(Kimberly),stepson Ben Jr.(Toledo, Ohio); grandchildren Jasmine Merrell, Ashley
Glotta (Zachary), Jeremiah Lyons, Jasmine McClendon, Kayla Lyons, and Kelvin McClendon Jr; sister
Christine Wilson, sister-in-law Ruth Wilson(Norwalk, CT); and a host of family and friends.
Our family is grateful to have many close, personal friends who we consider family.
Although we cannot name everyone, we want each of you to know what a huge part you’ve played in
Mary’s life and will continue to play in our lives.
Our family would like to thank those that took the time to help care for her. Your calls, visits, and acts of
kindness has meant the world to us.
