Melvin “Pee-Wee” H. Fulghum, Jr. was born January 18, 1949 in Nashville, Tennessee to the union of Melvin Howard and Mary Frances Fulghum. He departed this life at his home on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
“Pee-Wee” attended Metro Schools Pearl High and enlisted in the United States Marines Corps in 1966. While in the Marines he received a Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 silver star, Marine Corps Marksman Rifle Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rep Vietnam MUC Gallantry Cross and Rep Vietnam MUC Civil Actions Medal.
On January 28, 1972 he married Deborah Jane Rhodes and was blessed with one son Melvin H. Fulghum, III. In 1975 he was employed at AMEC Publishing House as a Printing Press Operator and later became Supervisor of the Printing Department until his health declined in 1995. He loved antique cars and was a collector of bells from individuals who traveled.
He was preceded in death by father Melvin Howard Fulghum, Sr. and brother Robert Orlando Fulghum.
Melvin Jr. leaves to cherish his memory, devoted wife, Deborah J. Fulghum, devoted son, Melvin H. Fulghum, III; loving mother Mary Frances Fulghum; sister Bernetta Dowell Teats; sisters-in-law Julia Ann Dorse (Barbara) Dixon, Beverly Rhodes; brothers-in-law Donnie (Delilah)Rhodes and Ronnie Rhodes; loving cousins Mary Bigham, Mabel Jones, Gwendolyn Clarke, Carolyn Ford, Elizabeth “Annette”(Bradley) Olson, Helen Diane Trimble-Anthony, William (Beverlyn) Trimble, Tinsley Trimble, Donna Cobbah, Tommy (Olivia) Abernathy, Georgia Jackson; devoted cousin Marcus Trimble; devoted friends Frank L. Vaughn, Brenda Suggs, Monica Green, very devoted neighbors Margaret Thomas, Patrick Thomas, Winifred Crawford, Genorris Crawford; other cousins and friends.
