Dr. Richard Wesley Hatfield was born on January 9, 1939 to Walter Hatfield and Elizabeth Pratt Hatfield in Nashville. He passed away on March 12, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers Barney, Walter Jr., Morris, William, and Samuel; and sisters Virginia (Mrs. Jackson), Mildred and Jewel (Mrs. Phillips).
Richard graduated from Pearl High School, received Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Tennessee State University, and a Doctorate Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee. He taught Mathematics for over 35 years at Meigs, Hillwood, McGavock, Brentwood, Fairview, and Tennessee State University in addition to handling thousands of hours of calls over 20 years tutoring for Homework Hotline.
A lifelong music lover, Richard played piano and enjoyed Opera. He sang with the Nashville Symphony Chorus as a member of the Bass section for over 50 years since the group was formed in 1963.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Highland Hills Funeral Home.
