Mr. Robert Hamer, Jr transitioned peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday June 17, 2021. He was preceded by his parents, the late Robert Hamer, Sr. and Mrs. Savatha Hamer., late brother L. B. Hamer and sisters Odessa Thompson, Fannie Mae “Gaylord” Nelson, Mae Bills and Ora Lee Barber., and daughter Paulette Hamer.
Mr. Hamer was born in Ashland City, Mississippi May 10, 1929. He was educated in the Mississippi public school systems.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Hardaway Missionary Baptist church in Michigan City, Mississippi. He later joined St Paul Skipper Spring Baptist church in Grand Junction, Tennessee where he served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Alge Terry until his health failed and moved to Bellevue, Tennessee.
Mr. Hamer dedicated his life to his wife, Gracie Lee Hamer whom he was married to for 71 years. His greatest joy in life was raising a strong family unit that included six sons. He worked a great number of years as a farmer and later became employed with Sequentia - Crane Composites where he worked and retired after more than 30 years. Many of his fun memories were of his co-workers and the friendships he developed over the years while working at the factory.
Mr. Hamer enjoyed the sports of baseball and boxing where he often talked about his days of playing baseball with his cousins and friends in an open field. He talked about making boxing bags just to hone his skills.
Mr. Hamer is survived by his wife, Gracie Lee Hamer; six sons, Jewel Hamer, Billie Hamer, Sr. (Gloria), Eddie Hamer (Linda), Johnnie Hamer (Constance), Barry Hamer, and Stevie Hamer (Cher).,sixteen grandchildren, Patrick, Cory, Leah, Joseph, Andrea, Khari, Shalonda, Taquila, Lakisha, Yolanda, Shannda, Barry Jr, Ziven, Isabella, Malachi, and Penelope; and a host of great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
