Rosalie Jones

January 2, 1945 — January 8, 2021

Rosalie Walters Jones, affectionally known as Rosa, was born on January 2, 1945 in Morristown, Tennessee to the late Louise Goins. She is preceded in death by her mother Louise, Great Aunt Nellie Richmond, Great Aunt Flossie Jack and Grandmother Rosa Walters whom she loved dearly. After a long hard battle with Alzheimer’s, she peacefully departed this earthly life on January 08, 2021.

Rosa attended Morristown College; an African American higher learning education institution founded in 1881 located in the heart of Hamblen County in Tennessee. She quickly excelled and graduated from their 2-year program. She later attended Knoxville college, founded in 1875 where she studied business for 2 years. After obtaining her degree, Rosa moved to Nashville with her daughter in 1973. She was employed by HUD and later went to work for Corps of Engineers as an Administrative Support Assistant where she retired after 42 years.

Rosa delighted in time spent with her family and going shopping with her daughter Tracye. Her love for all genres of music was undeniable. She also expressed unconditional love for her immediate family when she would travel on holidays and special occasions to visit. Although Rosa’s mother was very active in her life, during the school year she would travel to Florida for work leaving her with her Aunt Nellie and Cousin Dorothy. Rosa was an only child; she and her cousin Dorothy were more like sisters. When they would get together, they would laugh and reminisce over childhood memories. The only thing that kept them apart was the distance between Nashville and Morristown.

What many will remember most about Rosa is her infectious and beautiful smile. Nothing brightened her smile more that the bond she shared with her granddaughter, Harley Rose. They truly loved each other. They laughed, they played, they danced, and they sang together. When Harley was asked what she would miss most about her grandmother she said, “her love, her hugs and her kisses.”

With pleasant memories to always cherish she leaves her devoted daughter Tracye Louise Jones, loving granddaughter Harley Rose Jones, Cousins Dorothy Richmond, Shelia Hattie-Quick, Keona Collin and family, devoted caregivers and close friends.
