Ruth A. Wallace

November 27, 1947 — January 31, 2019

Ruth Alice London-Wallace was born on November 27, 1947 to Carolyn London in Nashville, Tennessee. She transitioned from this earthly to eternal life January 31, 2019 after a short and courageous battle with her illness at St. Thomas West Hospital.

At the age of 9 her mother passed and was reared by her aunt , Mattie Turner along with her brother, Larry.

Ruth at a very young age under the leadership of the late Pastor Frank Mason Spence joined Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Junior Usher, sung in the Junior Choir and attended Sunday School and BYPU. Ruth continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Herbert T. Brown.

Ruth graduated from Pearl High School in 1965.

Ruth was a Caregiver of Lila for over 30 plus years. The two shared a special bond and friendship that only they can describe.

Ruth along with her sons started the Simplicity Cleaning Service. Ruth served many companies throughout the Nashville area.

Ruth was very active in Greater St. John and the Community.

Ruth loved and enjoyed singing for the Lord.

Ruth was very active in the Mass and Sanctuary Choir where she served as past president, the Silver tones, and was a former member of the Voices of St. John where she served as the past president.

Ruth’s affiliates and influences included, The Birthday Club, The Fifty Plus Club, Travelers Unlimited, Faithful Member of The Rose Of Sharon, Youth Advisor to the Youth Praise Choir, Greater St. John Music Council Board Member, Senior Citizens Choir, Kitchen Committee, The Greater Nashville Choral Union, The Middle Tennessee Gospel Connection, Stone River District Jubilee Chorus, and the Celestial Gospel Ensemble. People who were very instrumental in Ruth’s life were Helen Yeargin, Louise Hailey-Miller, Mother Ellie Thompson and William (Bill) Hailey, III.

Ruth’s hobbies included cooking those awesome turnip greens and more, singing, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Ruth’s mother Carolyn London, Great-Grandmother Maggie London, Aunts, Mattie Turner, Viola, Samella, Christine London and Clara; Uncles, Thomas, Jr., Leon, and Roger London preceded her in death.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memories: twin sons, Karl and Carlos Lancaster; grandchildren, Courtney, Carlos II, Carson, Cahmari, Caylee, Camarlos, Camryn, Karlis, Kariana, Octavious, and Karma Lancaster; brother, Larry London; God Sons, Carlos Wiley and Davin Rolle; God Daughter, Latoya Johnson; cousins, Regina, Rhonda and Dollene London and Katrina Kelly; devoted friends, Helen Yeargin, Diane Butler, Marilyn Wiley, William (Bill) Hailey, III, Ronald (Duck) Cook, Velvet Coleman, The Faricy Family, The Travelers Unlimited Club, The Fifty Plus Club, Birthday Club, The Rose of Sharon, Pastor Herbert T. Brown and the entire Greater St. John Church Family and Music Ministry.


Family visitation Friday, February 8, 2019 from 5-7pm at Highland Hills Funeral Home, 2422 Brick Church Pike. Visitation Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 11am-12 noon with funeral to follow at Greater St. John Church, 2200 26th Avenue North with Pastor Herbert T. Brown, Eulogist. Interment Greenwood North Cemetery.
