Obituary - In the Words of Evangelist Clark
“Sadie Marie Turner Anderson Clark was born in 1930 in Nashville, Tennessee,” ( to Everett J Turner Sr. and Ethel Duff. She was preceded in death by her daughter Anita Turner.)
“I started to school when I was five years old. We walked past 3 white schools to get to the black school. When I entered high school, I went to summer school every year and graduated from high school in 1947 at age 16.
Because I had taken piano lessons for several years, I decided to go to Fisk University in Nashville and major in music. Four years later (1951), I graduated with an A.B. degree in Music. One month later, I began my teaching career in Brownsville, Tennessee at Carver High School.
I married a teacher in the community and we had two wonderful daughters, Wanda and Anita.
In 1966, I was the first black to receive a Master of Education degree from Memphis State University. Since that time I have taught in Memphis, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois and last but not least, Indianapolis, Indiana.”
(In 1970, I joined the graduate chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in Indianapolis, Indiana.)
“I was blessed with two grandchildren: Marland Powell and LaShauna Turner. Marland drives trucks all over the United States and LaShauna went to be with the Lord in 2004.”
One day Evangelist Clark heard the Lord say, “Go get the children.” And she did that for almost 40 years.
No matter where Evangelist Clark lived she always joined a church starting with Greater Bethel AME, St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Original Church of God, Pasadena Heights Church of God, Changing a Generation FGBC, and Word of Faith Healing and Deliverance Ministry. When she gets to heaven, everybody will recognize her.
Evangelist Clark leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Wanda Anderson Toote (Christopher); brother, Everett J. Turner Jr.; grandson, Marland Powell; nieces, Regina Perry Kimbell (Wendell) and Kimberly Turner Henry (Jesse); nephew, Everett Jose Turner III and many other relatives and friends.
