Steven Chandran Mcfarland

January 6, 1973 — December 7, 2017

Steven Chandran McFarland was born Saturday, January 6, 1973 to Mom, Janet McFarland-Merriwether and Father Jack Wade (deceased). He spent his childhood in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School system and graduated from Whites Creek High School in 1991. He grew up with a special Grandmother, Mother Roberta McFarland, first cousins, and loving family including Stepfather Henry Merriwether.

Chan, as he was called by family and friends, enjoyed time with his family, especially his siblings, first cousins, and the neighborhood boys. He loved his youth days at 14th and Phillips Original Church of God and was baptized at an early age by Bishop George W. Price.

Steve was an athlete at an early age and excelled at both basketball and track & field at Whites Creek. Steve would go on to attend the University of Memphis on a track scholarship with his friend David Vaughn. Their friendship continued in Orlando when Steve worked as his assistant during David’s time with the Orlando Magic. Steve would later return to Nashville and complete his Criminal Justice degree at Tennessee State in 2000.

Steve was introduced to the game of golf around 1997 and it was his love for golf that introduced him to his wife, Marie or “Mimi” as Steve affectionately called her. They met each other in 2001 while Marie was working at Ted Rhodes Golf Course. Steve and Marie were married on August 20, 2005 at Opryland Hotel. Steve loved his family and they routinely took trips to the beach, cruises, and Las Vegas. You would also frequently find Steve and his family celebrating Christmas staying at the Opryland hotel. Steve met many lifelong friends through golf including Michael Kelley, Dan Crockett, Tom Bannen, and many others through playing all over the country and working as a caddie at the Golf Club of Tennessee. Steve would go on to work at Tom Bannen Chevrolet in 2007 and was successful for many years in sales.

Steve leaves to cherish his memory with his wife, Rose Marie Porter-McFarland, sons Darron Bailey, Mitchell McFarland, and daughter Sydne’ McFarland. He will be greatly missed by his Mom Janet, Paternal Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wade Sr. Brothers Germonte Wade, Errick McFarland, Daryus Marriwether, Sisters Jackie Wade, Dorothy Wade, and Jenetta Merriwether. Steve also leaves behind many other family and friends that will truly miss him.
