Thomas A. Cartmell, Sr., age 78 of Nashville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Monday, November 10, 2014.
Mr. Thomas A. Cartmell Sr., affectionately known by many as “Wobbly", was born on August 30, 1936. He entered into eternal life on Monday, November 10, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Cartmell Jr., mother, Rebecca Fanroy Cartmell, brother Charles W. Cartmell III; twin brother, John G. Cartmell.
Thomas received his education in the Metropolitan Davidson County School System. He was employed by Baptist Hospital, Vanderbilt Hospital, and Metropolitan Government of Nashville where he performed janitorial services during his earlier years.
Thomas received Christ at an early age and united with Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend W. R. Murray Sr. There he was a member, along with his twin brother John, of the church youth group, The Anita Sherrill Singers. He later united with Mt. Nebo Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend A. G. Thomas. There he continued using his beautiful bass voice as a member of the Number 2 Choir, Number 1 Choir, The Hymn Singers, The Laymen, and Voices of Praise.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory devoted wife of 55 years, Mrs. Johnnie M. Cartmell; sons, Thomas A. Jr. (Pamela) Cartmell,and Kenneth E. Cartmell; daughters, Faith (Leslie) Whitfield, Josalyn B. Smith, Marilyn Cartmell, Debra S. West, and Stephanie(Curtis) Maxwell; grandsons, Raymond L. Hayes, Thomas A. Cartmell III, Richard Cartmell, Jarrett L. Smith, Justin L. Smith, Courtney J. Maxwell, Courtez R. Maxwell, Kenneth D. Ewing, and Brandon Martin; granddaughters, LaKeisha H. Harris, Princess Baker, NaShantee Chrismon, Shudraina Payne, Kendra S. Ewing, and Brittany M. Ewing; sister, Bobbie J. (Chester) Curry, of Cleveland, Ohio; aunt, Mrs. Jimmie C. Frazier; devoted cousin, William (Mary) Thompson, Sr., the Smith Family, and host of nieces, nephews , other relatives, and friends.
