Thoris Tabb Campbell

April 23, 1956 — January 7, 2023

Age 66 transitioned January 7, 2023. Thoris Tabb Campbell was born April 23, 1956, to the late Levie Weston Tabb and Mary Lucia Crocker Tabb at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia. Thoris was preceded in death by three of her six siblings: sister, Tandrie T. Tabb, and brothers, Tapo T. Tabb and Tyron T. Tabb.
Thoris accepted Christ at an early age. She graduated from Carver High School in Memphis, Tennessee and she distinguished herself with many honors. She was a cheerleader, a member of the National Honor Society, Teenager of the Week, and Miss Carver in her senior year, 1973-1974.

Thoris was always interested in serving her community and she had an interest in Juvenile Justice. After high school, Thoris enrolled at the University of Memphis and explored several majors before finding her passion – Nursing. She enrolled in the Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1981. During the next decade Thoris served in several nursing capacities. She worked as a traveling nurse, in hospitals, in medical practices, and briefly as a Tennessee Department of Corrections nurse (one day).

Thoris joined the Metro Nashville Public Health Department on October 1, 1990. She worked in multiple nursing settings before leaving to work for a large insurance company in 1998. Thoris returned to the Metro Health Department in October 2001.

Over the next 20 years, Thoris found her true passion in managing the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program for Davidson County and funded by the Tennessee Department of Health. Once again, Thoris distinguished herself by saving the lives of many at-risk and uninsured patients through efficiently coordinating with medical providers in Nashville (Meharry, Matthew Walker, Neighborhood Health, etc.).

Thoris was married to David Campbell on March 20, 1998, and he is a retired Metro Health Department employee. They lived on a small farm in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, happily for the last 25 years.
