Thoris was preceded in death by three of her six siblings: sister, Tandrie T. Tabb, and brothers, Tapo T. Tabb and Tyron T. Tabb.

She worked as a traveling nurse, in hospitals, in medical practices, and briefly as a Tennessee Department of Corrections nurse (one day).
Thoris joined the Metro Nashville Public Health Department on October 1, 1990. She worked in multiple nursing settings before leaving to work for a large insurance company in 1998. Thoris returned to the Metro Health Department in October 2001.
Over the next 20 years, Thoris found her true passion in managing the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program for Davidson County and funded by the Tennessee Department of Health. Once again, Thoris distinguished herself by saving the lives of many at-risk and uninsured patients through efficiently coordinating with medical providers in Nashville (Meharry, Matthew Walker, Neighborhood Health, etc.).
