Remembering the Life Journey of
Mr. Tyree Bowers
Life began for Tyree Bowers on June 17, 1945, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was the fifth of fourteen children born to the union of the late Arthur and Ailene Bowers and preceded in death by siblings, Ruby Jean, Donald, Thurman, Robert, Sr., and Charles Bowers.
Tyree received his education in the Davidson County School System and graduated in 1964 from Cameron High School. While in high school, he was voted by his class as Most Dramatic and was a member of the Archimedeans, a prestigious mathematical society. He attended Nashville State Technical School and Tennessee State University where he was a member of the ROTC.
Having accepted Christ early in life, and following the Christian example set by his parents, Tyree was baptized at Meharry Boulevard Church of God, Sanctified by Bishop R. E. Williams. Later, he united with Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church where he was a member for more than fifty years and helped organize the food source, security, and transportation ministries. Additionally, he served as a Trustee and was a faithful member of the Carlyle Hall Sunday school class.
Tyree was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving honorably in Germany, and achieving the rank of sergeant. The values he learned from the military contributed to his work ethic and influenced him to become a successful franchise entrepreneur for Exxon Mobile Company. He was also employed by the United Parcel Service, and the Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), where he retired in 2010.
During his free time, Tyree enjoyed traveling with his family, exercising at the YMCA, and taking long walks in the park. He also had great taste in clothing and restaurants.
