Vera Geraldine Lenox Miller was the last surviving child of the late Joseph and Georgia Lenox. Vera was born February 26, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the fourth of eight children born to this union. At the age of 3, Vera moved to Nashville, Tennessee with her parents. She was educated in the public schools of Nashville. On Friday, November 11, 2016 the Lord called her home.
Vera professed her belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Salem A.M.E. Church. She was an active member of Salem for more than 20 years. Later she joined Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served for 54 years. At Payne Chapel, she sang in the choir, serving as president for several years. She was also a member of the Missionary Society. Vera joined Mt. Zion Baptist church in 2005, but returned to her beloved Payne Chapel in 2015 where she served until her health failed.
Vera worked in dry cleaning for many, many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a surrogate mother to many. Vera loved people. She opened her home and heart to all. Vera was a loving, Christian woman who truly loved the Lord.
Vera leaves a loving family to cherish her memory. She is survived by very devoted daughter Mona (Michael) Singleton; three sons: Allen (Sallie), Thomas and Michael Miller;and six grandchildren: devoted grandson Marlon (Angela) Singleton, Allen III (Cynthia), Duan (Sandy), Adrienne, Thomas Jr. (Alicia), and Stevie Miller; fourteen great grandchildren: Jaela, Jeremiah and Micayla Singleton; Marquis Morris, Nicollette Berry, Davuan, Duan Jr., Odaisha, Destiny, Judah and Amir Miller; Azia Goins, Londyn and Lyriq McKnight; and two great-great grandchildren Shondon and Nylah Williams; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
