Vicki Cobb Campbell

June 2, 1947 — September 15, 2016

Vicki Cobb Campbell, age sixty-nine transitioned on September 15, 2016 to enter her eternal home. She was born June 2, 1947 to Izola Jenkins Cobb and the late Nathaniel Cobb in Waycross, Georgia. She grew up in Waycross, Georgia where she was educated in the public schools and graduated from Center High School in 1964.

Vicki received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Tennessee State University in 1970. She continued her education at Memphis State University from which she earned her M. Ed. and specialized in reading and test taking skills.

Vicki accepted Christ at an early age and was active in several churches throughout her life. She later joined Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Enoch Fuzz. Vicki was an active member and participated in the Pastor’s Aide Society and various church programs.

She was employed by the New York Board of Education. She taught in the Ware County School System, Waycross, Georgia; Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; Jackson State Community College and Lane Collage, Jackson, Tennessee and Tennessee State University. She joined the Meharry Medical College, School of Medicine Administration as Assistant Director of the Teaching and Learning Resource Center (TLRC) in 1989 and was appointed Director from 1992-2003. During her tenure in this capacity, Vicki provided many educational interventions for students which included analytical reasoning, critical thinking skills, and personal study skills for standardized test. She served as a national wide consultant in the area of test taking skills for standardized test. Her work involved students at all levels of higher education.

Vicki loved socializing, music and good food. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She loved playing bridge and was a member of two bridge clubs, the Metro Nashville Holidays, Inc. and Des Amies Bridge Club.

Vicki was known and loved by many people, especially the students she worked with at Meharry. She most of all, dedicated her life to her family, church, and the education of students. Vicki had a special place in her heart for children, many who affectionately viewed her as a mother figure. She loved and enjoyed being with her family and friends.

Vicki was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Robinson; and brother, Curtis Postell.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, a devoted husband, Dr. E. B. Campbell; son, Earnest (Kippy) Campbell; step daughter, Veda Campbell; mother, Izola Cobb; sisters, Meta Postell, Patricia O’Neal and Lenay Postell; brothers, Nathaniel Cobb; sister-in-law, Carolyn Postell; brothers-in-law, Claude Robinson and David O’Neal; loving and caring nieces and nephews, along with a host of family and dear friends
