October 9, 1955 July 29, 2022
Ms. Yvonne Denise Merritt was born October 9, 1955 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Overton Merritt Sr. and Beatrice Merritt. She departed this earthly life July 29, 2022.
Yvonne accepted Christ at an early age at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Junior Choir.
She was educated in the Nashville Davidson County School System, attending Maplewood High School and graduated in 1973. She also attended Nashville State Technical Institute where she earned her Associates Degree in Business Management in 1993.
She was employed for several years at Cain Sloan Department Store in the Cash Office and she served as a Loss Prevention Security Officer. In addition, she was employed at Bellsouth/AT&T Services for 25 years.
Our sister was so full of life. Von enjoyed decorating for special events and parties. She loved gardening flowers and landscaping around the patio. Von had a competitive spirit and enjoyed playing the online game called June’s Journey. She was her team’s “Madame President” and loved serving them virtual drinks. She also enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends.
Von was a very giving person and extremely devoted to her family, especially to her nieces and nephews. Her family always called upon her when there was something they could not figure out. Von’s reply would always be “Just Google It!” We will certainly miss her potato salad because she was the “Potato Salad Queen”.
She was preceded in death by her parents Overton Merritt, Sr. and Beatrice H. Merritt; sister, Vannetta; brothers, Byron and Ronald; nephews, Thomas (Gille Baby) Abernathy, III and Shawn D. Bransford.
She leaves to cherish her memory, brother, Overton (Mildred) Merritt, Jr.; sisters, A. Jean Patton, R. Elaine (George) Monfort of Decatur, GA, Valeria Smith, A. Lynn Woodruff; sister-in-law, Nellie Merritt; a host or nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; and devoted friends, Rita Phillips, Rosa Bell, Carl Parsons, Chris Downer, and Carolyn Stafford.
